The Principle Guiding EquifHIT

EquifHIT is intended to assess vestibulo-ocular reflex function with precision. An intact vestibulo-ocular reflex is essential for maintaining visual acuity while the head is in motion. Its importance is underlined by 2 key facts:

Fovea-centred Vision

Visual acuity is at its highest at the fovea, with a sharp decline after 2 degrees from its center.

Steady Gaze

To maintain the best visual acuity, the object of interest must remain steady on the fovea.

How Does EquifHIT Work to
Assess Vestibulo-ocular Reflex?

During rapid head movements, an intact vestibulo-ocular reflex ensures gaze stability by precisely counteracting head motion. EquifHIT assesses each canal individually by presenting optotypes at peak head velocity in specific canal planes and directions. The optotype appears only at peak velocity and disappears when head velocity drops below the optimal range. Precisely timed sensors and specialized algorithms ensure accurate timing. Identifying the presented optotype requires intact semicircular canal function in the tested plane and direction.

Stabilize the Gaze, Balance
the Body

  • The head-mounted device incorporates angular velocity sensors in 3 axes, ensuring accurate measurements.
  • The angular velocity sensors are oriented in the horizontal plane, RALP plane, and LARP plane.
  • Suboptimal presentations are automatically rejected.
  • This, in turn, guarantees reliable results.
  • Standard Snellen Optotypes: Familiar optotypes for effective testing.
  • Landolt C Optotypes: For testing in individuals who cannot read the Englishalphabet.
  • The intact vestibulo-ocular reflex is essential for maintaining visual acuity while the head is in motion.
  • This device evaluates initial visual acuity with a stable head.
  • Scores are presented as the number of correct responses out of 10 presentations.
  • You can easily interpret results with color-coded indications – green (normal), yellow (borderline), and red (low).

• Findings for each canal are given.
• You can receive the above in the comprehensive report.
